The Marien Golf Arena was created in response to a challenge by fb group PGA Tour 2K21 - Course Designer Community to create two courses on one plot. The Marien Golf Arena West Course is paired with the Marien Golf Arena East Course to fulfill this requirement.

Marien Golf Arena follows the golf arena design. At Marien, the six sided main concourse is divided into to main statdium areas, each surrounding the 9th and 18th greens. Two smaller stadium areas are where the first and tenth tees are located. Practice facilities are to the north side of the complex, while spectator access, fan zones, access to the hotel and parking are to the south.

The West Course is par 72. The West Course is the newer course on the complex and is the championship course. Events where both courses are used, the final round will always be held on the West Course.

The course plays along the Shale Creek, and into the wooded hills north of the creek. The course features multiple holes playing back and forth across the creek. Elevation changes and uneven lies will challenge golfers on every shot. And the main grandstand on nine and eighteen will leve no doubt you are playing in a major event.

The course is also lines with trees and bunkers, and the rough is some of the thickest you will find. This puts a premium on being accurate off tees and on approach shots. If you keep the ball in play, you can score very low on this course. But if you have to start scrambling, expect it to be reflected in your total.

Be sure to check out Marien Golf Arena East Course after you finish your round on the West Course.

The opening hole throws you right into the action. It is not a long par five, but the tee shot plays uphill. You must be long off the tee to clear the trees for a clear shot to the green. Otherwise you will have to shape a shot around the trees to reach in two, or layup short of Shale Creek.

Number two has you making a decision off the tee. You can play conservative and layout without crossing the creek. But that leaves a long shot home, and let's face it, nobody plays conservative on a video game. So for most, the tee shot will be driven across Shale Creek. This is a more difficult drive bringing both sand and water into play. But if successful, leaves a short approach.

The West Course is unique in that you play the two par fives on the front nine in the first three holes. You cannot miss left off the tee on this hole. The tee shot plays uphill away from Shale Creek, and the left rough is all downhill and covered in trees and underbrush. Depending on your length and wind conditions, a good drive will give you the option of going for the green in two.

4 4 460

Another difficult driving hole. This long par four has a fairway that narrows in the landing zone. The right side is guarded by a bunker, and the left with trees. Missing the fairway will make reaching the green very difficult.

5 3 190

You are well into your round before you reach the first par three. At 190 yards, this is a long and challenging short hole. The green is elevated with a steep drop off the left side. Sand protects the right side.

6 4 320

Six is short and plays downhill. It will not be hard to drive for most. Getting to the green is not hard, but getting close will take some luck. The green slopes away from the tee towards Shale Creek. This is a hole you should expect to birdie.

7 4 430

Number seven tees off from a combined tee box with number eleven. You may not need / want driver off the tee. But like so many of the holes on the west course, get off the fairway and you will struggle to hit the green.

8 4 490

Number eight is a very long par four that plays slightly downhill. The tee shot is importand, but the key shot on this hole is the approach. The green runs towards the lake in front of the stadium section, and being off line or having the wrong distance will leave a difficult two putt or chip to save par.

9 3 155

Is there a better setting in golf than a par three over water in front of a large crowd. That is exactly what you have here with number nine. By far the shortest of the par threes, this is still a challenge to make par. Slightly up hill, there is a lot of movement on the green once you reach the putting service.

10 4 420

The fairway on number ten has a small rough patch in the middle that is more annoyance than hazzard. The key to this hole is the approach. The second shot will play downhill, and the tenth green is another green that runs away from the player. Very difficult hole to stop the ball on to leave a short birdie putt.

Eleven is the only hole on the west course that does not have sand. And Shale Creek only comes into play if you really spray the ball right. But that does not make this hole any easier. Keep the ball in the fairway, and it will funnel to the end and make a much easier approach. Miss the fairway and you are looking at another battle to save par.

12 4 420

Maybe the prettiest hole on the West Course, number twelve plays to the top of a hill. This leaves a commanding view of the green sitting just on the other side of Shale Creek. Twelve is not overly long, so you can reach the green even if your tee shot is a little off line. But it sure makes getting the ball close easier if you hit from the short stuff.

13 3 175
155
Thirteen is a medium length par three that plays just a little bit uphill. A large green sits to the left, and a steep hill falls away to the right. The green is tiered, collecting shots at the front.

14 5 580

Been a while since you teed up on a par five. This par five gives an outside chance of reaching in two. That requires that you find the fairway off the tee. Miss the fairway, and you'll work hard to get across Shale Creek cleanly.

15 4 425
390
A trio of bunkers line the right side of the fairway. And they are the better option if you are going to miss. A steep valley falls away from the fairway to the left, and is covered in trees and brush. This is not a long hole and putting the ball in the fairway will leave a short approach and a chance to score.

16 3 165
135
A modest par three for one of the closing holes, sixteen will have you hitting a mid iron to an slightly uphill green. A ridge from front to back will carry your tee shot away from the center. Play this ridge right, and it may funnel your ball toward the hole.

17 5 530
490
Seventeen is a short and perplexing par five. Distance wise, there is no doubt most golfers can reach in two. The challenge on this right angle par five is getting clear of the tree line off the tee. The trees closely line the second half of the fairway, and playing over them to reach the green is very difficult. Get caught up in the trees can blow your score up quickly. Always remember, playing your third from the second fairway gives you an open view to the green.

18 4 455
415
Eighteen is a classic finishing hole. Long, demanding, this is not a hole you want to be in need of a birdie on. The tee shot plays over a bunker and slopes towards the lake. It is possible to run off the end of the fairway. The approach is uphill, into the face of the towering grandstand.
