It’s a fate worse than death. To have the second most points in the league, and lose because you played the top scoring team in the league. That’s what happened to TacoCorp, who fell to Joanne 145-126. Joanne got 41 from DJ Moore, who was the Player of the Week. Jalen Hurts added 31 and DeVon Achne had 22.
There were no great games this week. The closest was the Rally Possums 95-84 victory over Down the Drain. The Rally Possums are 5-0, one of two perfect teams in the league.
The other is Shakedown, who keeps just rolling. Shakedown defeated Momball 106 – 87. Patrick Mahomes has Shakedown on auto pilot.
Other winners in week five were Happy, who enjoyed a 122-104 win over the Beercats and Bane defeating Transformation Worldwide 116-89. The loss drops Worldwide to 0-5. The last winner was The Dak Knight Rises, who nearly doubled up the Secret Scammers 106-56.
EW DIVISION CHECK-IN
Location, location, location. What division you are located in probably influences how you feel about the standings. Two division have down right bullies. The Rally Possums and Shakedown both are 5-0. Both have two game leads in their division. And both look to be on a crash course for their week eight showdown. Don’t screw it up you too, that’s got game of the week written all over it.
In the Tom Landry division behind the Rally Possums are The Dak Knight Rises and Bane (hmm, think I’ve seen that movie) at 3-2 and the Beercats at 2-3. In the Chuck Noll division, Shakedown is two games up on Joanne who is alone in second at 3-2. The Secret Scammers follow at 2-3 and Momball brings up the rear at 1-4.
And then we have the Don Shula division. Ironic that the only coach to ever coach a team to a perfect season has such an imperfect collection of teams. Three teams are tied for first. That’s the good news. All three teams are 2-3. That is the bad news. And the ugly? Transformation Worldwide has managed to fall two games behind those three teams at 0-5. Amazing, Transformation Worldwide is not out of it.
FLYIN’ HIGH
The Willow Run Flyers picked up their third win of the season beating Rimski’s Raiders 136.3. The Flyers were led by Player of the Week DJ Moore, who had 41 points and earned Player of the Week honors. Russell Wilson added 24 and the Jets defense had another 19. After playing in the championship game last year, the Raiders are off to a disappointing 1-4 start this year.
The best game of the week saw the Scammers hold off the Patriots 118-110. Zack Moss had 24 for the Scammers, who improve to 5-0. Travis Etienne was actually high scorer in the game for the Patriots with 32.
The Scammers are not the only perfect team this season. The Gritz Blitz Falcons also moved to 5-0, beating Florida Sea Breeze 80-76. It was a balanced performance for Blitz, who’s top scorer had thirteen. But there were three Blitz players with thirteen, so that’s OK.
The Cincinnati Eagles are in the win column, meaning everyone in the Brilliant Manufacturing League has at least one win. The Eagles had a big game against Steel City FooBall 126-93 to earn their first victory. Jared Goff led the way with 33 points.
The other winners in week five were Baloony Boiz, who beat the Buckeyes 112-77 and Prestige Worldwide beat Grande Fantasmas 121-64.
BM DIVISION CHECK-IN
Three teams have sort of separated themselves from the crowd, and they each lead a division. The Digital Scammers are 5-0 and hold a two game lead on the Baloony Boiz in the Paul Brown division. The Eagles and Raiders are both another two games back, and appear to be leaving the battle for first between the top two teams.
Gritz Blitz Falcons are the other 5-0 team. They boast the highest percentage change of making the playoffs at 99%. Like the Scammers, they hold a two game lead. The Willow Run Flyers are second in the Lombardi division at 3-2. Prestige Worldwide is another game back at 2-3. Grande Fantasmas sit in fourth.
Steel City Fooball is 4-1 and in first place in the Halas division. The Olde England Patriots are close, at 3-2. Then it is two games back to Sea Breeze and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
If you are looking at wildcard positioning, we have five teams at 1-4. That makes it easy to identify who’s in and who’s out at this point. One of those five teams would still have a spot in the playoffs. It would be Sea Breeze, but not by much.
So why did I check the standings this week. Week six is an important week on our schedules. It is the first of three weeks where all the games are division rivals. These games are doubly important as not only does a win moye you a game up, but it pushes one of your rivals down a game.
SURVIVOR
Grande Fantasmas were eliminated from Survivor island. Now that might seem like a sad event for some of you. But in Asheville, NC, the townsfolk are holding a parade. This is the furthest into a season Fantasmas have stayed on Survivor Island. Fantasmas will be joined off the island by the Secret Scammers, who go beat 106-56.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Twelve games between the two leagues this week. Only one with featuring two teams with winning records. So we’re off to the Edison Works league for the game of the week. The Rally Possums are 5-0 and led by either Justin Herbert or CJ Stroud, who’s been a pleasant rookie surprise at QB.
Bane is 3-2 and trying to keep pace with the Possums. A loss drops Bane three games back. Bane will have Kirk Cousins under center. It will be interesting to see how he does since his best receiver is out for a month with an injury.
