The Willow Run Flyers have positioned themselves for a shot at the Lombardi division title in the final week of the season. That after their Team of the Week performance in week thirteen, when they took down division leading Gritz Blitz Falcons 142-122. Brock Purdy was Player of the Week for the Flyers with 37. DK Metcalf added 31 more. It is a better defeat for the Falcons, who would have clinched the division with a win. What makes it worse is they were the second highest scoring team in the league this week and would have beaten anyone else. Now they go to week fourteen in a near must win situation to win the division.
The only close game saw the Scammers hand the Raiders a devastating defeat, which may leave the Raiders high and dry for a playoff spot. The Scammers won 113-105, led my Tyreek Hill and Mike Evans who had 27 and 22 each. The story is the Raiders, who drop to 5-8, and we’ll have to check in on when we look at playoff projections in a moment.
The George Halas division will come down to the final game thanks to week thirteen results. Steel City FooBall had the opportunity to win the division with a win and Patriots loss. Just the opposite happened. FooBall fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes 104-90. This safely locks the Buckeyes into the playoffs. The loss by FooBall opened the door to the Old England Patriots, who capitalized by beating Florida SeaBreeze 107-62. Just like the Lombardi division, these teams are tied at 8-5 with one game to play.
In what was likely an elimination game, the Cincinnati Eagles keep slim playoff hopes alive, I think, with a 90-50 victory over the Baloony Boiz. Dak Prescott continues to be a hot hand, scoring 34 points. I’m not sure if 5-8 is going to get the job done for the playoffs this year.
And one last game with playoff impact. Prestige Worldwide improved to 6-7 by beating Grande Fantasmas 118-98. Jamar Chase had 20 points on Monday night to lock up the win for Worldwide. These two team I think these teams are on the good side of the playoff bubble… for the moment.
PLAYOFF PICTURE
So you might be able to tell from the first part of the article, I write from top to bottom, and I don’t prepare the rest of the article when recapping last weeks games. So I really don’t know what the playoff picture looks like, even as I’m typing this. So lets find out together.
If the season ended today, here are the brackets
1. Digital Scammers v 8. Grande Fantasmas
4. Willow Run Flyers v 5. Old England Patriots
2. Gritz Blitz Falcons v 7. Prestige Worldwide
3. Steel City FooBall v 6. Ohio State Buckeyes
We have a very clean break for the final wildcard spot right now. 6-7 gets in. 5-8 is out. No tie breakers needed.
TEAM PROJECTIONS
Unlike past weeks where I only take records into consideration for my playoff projections, this week I will put the maximum points that a team can make up in one week at 100. So if you are more than 100 points ahead or behind another team, I will consider that margin insurmountable. Note, it does happen in rare occasions that a team outscores another team by 100 or more. It is very rare.
1. SCAMMERS
Clinched number 1 overall seed
2. FALCONS
Have clinched playoff spot
Will clinch division with win AND Flyers loss
OR
Will clinch division with (win AND Flyers win, OR loss and Flyers loss) AND is NOT outscored by more than 84 points
3. FOOBALL
Have clinched playoff spot
Will clinch division with win OR Patriots loss
Lead Patriots by 106 in total points for tie breaker
4. FLYERS
Have clinched playoff spot
Will clinch division with win AND Falcons loss
OR
Will clinch division with (win AND Falcons win, OR loss and Falcons loss) AND is outscore Falcons by more than 85 points
5. PATRIOTS
Have clinched playoff spot
Will clinch division with win AND Fooball loss
Trail FooBall by 106 in total points for tie breaker
6. BUCKEYES
Clinched wildcard
7. WORLDWIDE
Will clinch wildcard with a win
OR a loss AND losses by both Raiders and Eagles
OR a loss AND win tie breaker among 6-8 teams***
8. FANTASMAS
Will clinch wildcard with a win
OR a loss AND losses by both Raiders and Eagles
OR a loss AND win tie breaker among 6-8 teams***
RAIDERS
Will clinch wildcard with a win AND a loss by at least one of the following Worldwide, Fantasmas AND win tie break among 6-8 teams
Will be eliminated with a loss
EAGLES
Will clinch wildcard with a win AND a loss by at least one of the following Worldwide, Fantasmas AND win tie break among 6-8 teams
Will be eliminated with a loss
BOIZ, SEABREEZ
Have been eliminated
So for the four teams that could end up in a tie for the wildcard spots, your season point total is important. Here are the current standings and margins.
TEAM | POINTS | MARGIN |
Worldwide | 1290.5 | 0 |
Fantasmas | 1250.4 | 40.1 |
Raiders | 1246.3 | 44.2 |
Eagles | 1199.6 | 90.9 |
Looking at the points, nobody if totally safe. Forty points is a large margin, but impossible. Will be difficult for the Eagles to jump Worldwide, but there is a chance of getting Fantasmas. The most important thing is the Raiders and Eagles need help first, then need to make up the points gap. Advantage Worldwide and Fantasmas, but no locks.
MOMBALL?!? REALLY?!?
Did not think I’d be writing that headline this season. And don’t get me wrong. MomBall, under a different name and in a different league, has had his share of success, including a league championship. But this hasn’t been a stealer season.
But thanks to Brock Purdy, who was Player of the Week in the EWFFL too, MomBall not only wins Team of the Week, but knock of Shakedown in what is turning into the biggest collapse since the stock market in 1929. But this isn’t about Shakedown. Momball got help from Nico Collins with 25 points. Momball’s season will end next weekend, but this is a nice cap to the season.
The best game of the week may have the biggest effect on the playoff scene. The Scammers escaped with a fortunate 91-89 victory over Joanne. These two teams were both 6-6 entering the game, and the winner would have the upper hand on a wildcard spot. The Scammers took their two point lead into Sunday night. Joanne had a wide receiver left. But he laid an egg, literally… well not literally, that would have been in all the highlights, but he did put a 0 in the box score. And the Scammers held on for the win.
The team on the chase has been the Beercats. They have a huge points advantage over the wildcard teams they are chasing, they just need to get into a tie. Opportunity missed this week. Bane foiled the Beercats plans 120-107. It is an important win for Bane as it locks them into the post season.
Down the Drain and Happy will come down to the final game to determine who the Shula division champion will be. Both teams won. Both teams are 8-5. Down the Drain won a close one, 115-110 over TacoCorp, officially closing TacoCorp out of the playoffs. Happy chased away (Jamar Chase, 20 points on Monday Night) Transformation Worldwides hopes of a third win 104-98. It would be really cool if these teams play in the last week.
Last, but most certainly not least, the battle for the Landry division went to the Dak Knight Rises. Dak Prescott continues to impress. He had 34 leading the Dak Knight to a 108-83 victory over the Rally Possums. This give the Dak Knight a one game lead over the Possums heading into the last week. It’s not a done deal, but the Dak Knight can clinch the division and the top seed with a win.
PLAYOFF PICTURE
So the playoff picture for the Edison Works League is clear cut, easy peazy. It comes down to two teams. But I’ll get to that in a minute. The brackets right now would be…
1. The Dak Knight Rises v 8. Joanne
4. Rally Possums v 5. Down the Drain
2. Shakedown v 7. Secret Scammers
3. Happy v 6. Bane
Right now, Joanne is in at 6-7. The Beercats are out at 5-8.
TEAM PROJECTIONS
Again, 100 point threshold on tie break projections.
1. DAK KNIGHT
Have clinched division
Is more than 100 points ahead of Possums in total points and will win tie breaker
2. SHAKEDOWN
Have clinched division
Is more than 100 points ahead of Scamers in total points and will win tie breaker
3. HAPPY
Have clinched playoff spot
Will clinch division with win AND Drain loss
OR score within 8 points of Drain
4. POSSUMS
have clinched wildcard spot
5. DRAIN
Have clinched playoff spot
Will clinch division with win AND Happy loss
OR score 9 points or more than Happy
6. BANE
Have clinched wildcard spot
7. SCAMMERS
Have clinched wildcard spot
8. JOANNE
Will clinch wildcard spot with a win OR Beercats loss
Will be eliminated with a loss AND Beercats win
Beercats have more than 100 point advantage in total points.
BEERCATS
Will clinch wildcard spot with win AND Joanne loss
Will be eliminated with loss OR Joanne win
TRANSFORMATION, TACOCORP, MOMBALL
Have been eliminated
So the two things really on the line, Happy and Down the Drain may come down to how many points they score this weekend. If they both win or the both lose, Happy starts the weekend with an 8.8 head start on Down the Drain.
And because of points, Joanne and Beercats simply come down to wins and losses. Beercats will win the tiebreaker if the end at 6-8.
SUPER SURVIVOR
The Super Survivors represented this week. The Dak Knight, 108. Down the Drain, 115. Down the Drain is safe. Steel City FooBall, only 90. So Steel City FooBall is eliminated, and that means the Super Survivor will come from the Edison Works league. That will be decided next week.
LEAGUE VS LEAGUE
The season long battle for the league with most Team of the Weeks will come down to the end. A month ago, I thought the Edison Works League was going to stink this competition up. They were up six to three, and had won five in a row. But now the Brilliant League has had the top scoring team four straight weeks, and holds a 7-6 lead in the season battle.
But the tie breaker is the highest scoring team. And that was Shakedown in week three for the Edison Works league. So whoever has the highest scoring team this week will be the superior league.
GAME OF THE WEEK
I’m choosing not to pick a game of the week. There are too many important games to pick just one. Between the two leagues, the are twelve games. Eleven will impact division titles, playoff spots or seeds. The only exception is SeaBreeze at Boiz in the BMFFL. Maybe that should be game of the week.
Nah, I’ll leave those guys alone. The short list of games to watch includes the Cincinnati Eagles versus Prestige Worldwide. The Eagles must win to keep their hopes alive. Worldwide is one of the two teams they need to pass. So this is a marquee game.
The Beercats are the hard luck team of the season. That continued on Monday when their QB Trevor Lawrence wend down to an injury. The need a win and help to get in, but points won’t matter in a tie breaker. They play TacoCorp
If the Beercats can win, the door could fly open. Joanne draws Down the Drain. Down the Drain is playing for a division title. So nothing will be given here. But could achieve their goals with a loss, but it would be much safer with a win. And If Down the Drain loses, then Happy can win their division by beating MomBall.
The Falcons need a win to win the Lombardi division. Grande Fantasmas is the most vulnerable wildcard team. So they need a win to secure their playoff spot. If Fantasmas fall, then the Raiders could swoop in and steal the spot, but they have to beat FooBall who needs a win to win their division. And the Patriots will need to beat the Buckeyes if FooBall slips up to win the Halas division.
And I’m sure I missed a couple. There is just too much action, too many possibilities to cover them all. Good Luck everyone and enjoy.
