TacoCorp stopped the red-hot Happy 144-78. Josh Allen led Taco Corp with 28 points, Racheed White and Josh Jacobs added 23 and 21 points respectively. The win tightens up the race in the Shula division, but Happy still leads at 5-4.
Dak Prescott returned to the top of the Player standings in week nine, first time he’s been a POW contender in quite a while. Prescott led the Dak Knight Rises with 34 points, paving the way to an 80-74 win over Bane.
The best game of the week saw the tough luck team in the league take another loss. The Rally Possums got just enough from Justin Herbert on Monday night to pull off a 73.3-72.9 win over the Beercats. You know the Possums were expecting a more comfortable margin.
For the Beercats, who are now 3-6… four of their losses have been by less than ten points, and the last two weeks have been by a total of 1.5 points. The Beercats are actually second in the league in scoring. Be warned all high division leaders, this is not a team you want to draw in the opening round of the playoffs.
Scores in general were down this week as only three teams hit the century mark in the EWFFL. But the other really good performance besides TacoCorp was Down The Drain. They took full advantage of Happy taking a step back with a 127-85 victory over Tranformation Worldwide. Its desperation time for Transformation at 1-8. 6-8 is usually needed to get a playoff spot, and they don’t look on the verge of a five game win streak.
The Scammers scored a come from behind win on Monday night over Momball 108-85. Trailing by five heading into the final game of the week, the Chargers defense returned a punt for a touchdown in the first two minutes and this game was over.
If I’ve ever buried the lead in an article, it is this week. It is right now. The 1972 Miami Dolphins are poppin’ champagne corks again, as the last of the undefeated have fallen. Joanne throttles Shakedown 92-79, handing Shakedown their first loss. Don’t feel too bad for Shakedown as they still hold a three game lead with five to play over Joanne. Jalen Hurts was the game MVP with 29 for Joanne.
BUCKEYES BEAT FLORIDA
I just like that title. Would have liked that in January 2007. Alas, I’ll have to settle for it in fantasy land. The Ohio State Buckeyes best Florida SeaBreeze 117-90 this week, to move to 4-5 on the season. A first time POW winner in CJ Stroud led the way. Stroud had a whopping 51 points for the Buckeyes. Way more than that slacker Jalen Hurts had in the EW League.
The best game of the week featured the second and third highest scoring teams of the week. Rimski Raiders (who rumor has it is having a birthday today 11/7… rumored, not confirmed) beat the Cincinnati Eagles 112-106. Josh Allen was top dog for the Raiders with 28. I’m sure the Eagles won’t feel so bad knowing they let the Raiders win on their special day.
Steel City FooBall was the only other team to crack a hundred. They dropped the Old England Patriots 104-86 and improved to 7-2. Jalen Hurts… did I say something bad about Jalen Hurts?!?!? I didn’t mean it. Jalen Hurts was the leading scorer with 29. FooBall is now two full games ahead in the Halas division, and figure to be tough to beat down the stretch.
The last three games of the week were equally BLAH. The Willow Run Flyers beat Grande Fantasmas 74-56… Fantasmas still hung over from their TOW last week. The Digital Scammers beat the Baloony Boiz 88-63 and are now 7-2 leading the Brown division. And the Gritz Blitz Falcons have dropped two in a row after a 7-0 start. This time it was Prestige Worldwide doing the honors 86-59.
SURVIVOR
What makes Survivor so fun is that one false step, and any team can be eliminated. That’s the case for Shakedown, as they are off the Edison Works side of Survivor Island. And in the Brilliant League, the top team in that league was eliminated. The Digital Scammers were the low scoring remaining team this week and are also off the island. On the flip side, I also noticed to my surprise, Transformation Worldwide is still alive.
I did find a mistake some of you may have noticed. I had Steel City FooBall marked as eliminated. That was a mistake. I marked them the week Grande Fantsmas was eliminated. Only caught it because Fantasmas would have been out this week in the BMFFL.
TOW LEAGUE HEAD TO HEAD
The Edison Works League has had the highest scoring team five straight weeks, and are one week away from clinching a tie for the superior TOW League. More impressively, and I’m sure I’ll jinx it here, we have not had a team repeat as Team of the Week. Nine weeks, nine different winners.
SOMETHING AMAZING
Something Amazing happened this weekend. I updated the Money Matters. I think I have accurately recorded all those who’ve paid, and now have laser focus on those who have not. I now how Quedo from Collection-R-Us on speed dial to bring in the rest of your entry fees. For those who have not paid, there are four, count ‘em FOUR easy ways to pay, all listed at the bottom of the article page.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Shakedown and Happy offered a compelling option for Game of the Week in the Edison Works League. But the Brilliant Manufacturing League went one better. Three teams in the BMFFL are atop their divisions at 7-2. Surprisingly there are no teams at 6-3. So these three teams are out ahead of the field. Well two of them play this week.
The Gritz Blitz Falcons have fallen on hard times recently. I’ve not been tracking this closely, but it make me suspect they’ve been bit by the injury bug, probably with bye complications. But they still have Lamar Jackson, who is capable of keeping a team in a game on his own.
The Scammers may have to put Baker Mayfield under center this week. Are you kidding me… no team playing Baker Mayfield should ever be 7-2. But if you think he’s bad, you should see Scammers other two options.
For two high powered teams, this game may only be close because neither team can score enough points to win by a lot.
